Growing up on the bustling corners of New York City, known for its rich, diverse culture in street food, Chef Ismail brings innovation and artistry into the traditional Thai food fold to create a signature style that is at heart, his own.
After moving to Detroit and working at local restaurants, Chef Ismail opened his first restaurant, Desi Pizza in Hamtramck, where he introduced the meat and rice gyro concept in Michigan. He has since moved on to bigger and better projects.
Founder and Executive Chef of Halal Street, a classic style New York Street food in Detroit and Detroit Eatery at Midtown Detroit and Royal Oak, a favorite carryout spot in Metro area.
In 2021, Chef Ismail opened his newest restaurant concept, My Thai Halal in Sterling Heights, where he constructs imaginative, classical Thai dishes using modern techniques. Chef Ismail’s menu at My Thai, carefully focuses on delivering an inventive interplay of Thai flavors and textures, guiding the diner on a culinary exploration of provincial Thai dishes.
Chef Ismail is a renowned chef whose culinary expertise has captivated taste buds around metro Detroit. He honed his skills through years of formal training under prestigious chef and then gained valuable experience working at the St. Regis Hotel. Now with many followers always asking Chef Ismail to make something off of the menu on a daily basis and his answer is always “coming right up”.

What makes chef Ismail unique is his dedicated team, more like family and a family-like atmosphere filled with respect, has driven their team to the top, and each member of the family has their own role. Reeti and Razu Choudhury, who are responsible for organizing the space, operating and inspiring creativity. Gulzar Sayied manage the event and catering from a food, beverage, and service perspective. Zakir Hossain plays the most important role known as “BOH” behind the scenes, where everything happens. Team work makes the dream work.
Chef Ismail’s heart for charity continues to make a positive impact on people’s lives. Chef Ismail and his team are always involved with local charities, events, and sponsoring.
Fun fact: Chef Ismail is a fitness/bodybuilding enthusiast, who also practices martial arts and Thai Kickboxing. Occasionally, he teaches martial arts to the youth.
